The Lady of the Garden Previous Next
Title of Piece: The Lady of the Garden
Artist: Paul Suttman
Acquired: 1967
Material(s): Bronze
Category: Public Art
Location: In the Garden, east of Martha Cook Residence
Comments: Commissioned by alumnae and friends of Martha Cook Residence for the dorm's 50th anniversary. Suttmans's wife was the model for the piece, which is sometimes called 'Eve', due to the apples lying behind the figure. The apples also are seen to anticipate the subject that would be Suttman's primary focus for the rest of his life - still-lifes. 'The Lady of the Garden' was the last free-standing human statue sculpted by Suttman.
